Transcription Essentials with Legal
Equipment Needed: Express Scribe PRO Software, Infinity Foot Pedal, Windows computer, MS Word. Details below.
This curriculum includes four courses. (1) English, Grammar and Punctuation, (2) Ethics, (3) Basics, and (4) Depo Fundamentals. This 45 to 55 hour curriculum is designed to give students a baseline understanding of transcription, preparing them for further training aimed at AAERT certification or to begin working while refining their skills.
This curriculum does not prepare students for AAERT certification because it contains general and deposition formatting rules and does not cover federal formatting specifications.
EQUIPMENT DETAILS: PC-based computer with Windows 8.1 or better, MS Word (Microsoft Word 2016, 2019, and Office 365), Express Scribe Professional, and an Infinity USB-2 Foot Pedal. Headphones are also recommended. Please note that some ECS brand foot pedals showing the Infinity name are programmed to only one specific software and may not be compatible.

This course contains information a transcriptionist should know about ethics, confidentiality, conflict of interest and bias. Parts of this course may be contained in other courses offered by BlueLedge.

Learn transcription skills and basic transcript formatting. This course does not cover federal (AAERT) formatting requirements. Your grade in this course is weighted on the final scores you receive on the instructor-graded assignments. The five instructor-graded assignments are at the end of this course and the instructor returns assignments the following business day. Please manage your time wisely. The Transcription Basics course will provide an overview of fundamental skills that are necessary for creating a high-quality transcript. This course will offer skill-building exercises in research techniques, understanding accents, listening in context, using Word to your advantage, and proofreading. (15 hours / 1.5 CEUs)

Learn how to format deposition transcripts. This course does not cover federal (AAERT) formatting requirements. The Deposition Fundamentals course will provide general formatting rules for creating a transcript for depositions and other non-court legal proceedings. The general rules in this course can be applied when transcribing the majority of state cases. This course does not prepare students for AAERT certification. This course is perfect for experienced transcriptionists looking to begin transcribing legal proceedings. Students learn legal and industry terminology. Additionally, students will learn to work within customer-driven specifications such as a style guide and a template. (10 hours / 1.0 CEUs)
